Govt Assures Full Preparedness to Combat Imminent Flood Crisis
Agartala, June 1, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha visited flood-affected areas in Agartala on Sunday to assess ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. He assured the public that the state government is fully equipped to handle the situation, with all necessary personnel and resources actively deployed.
Dr. Saha inspected several flood-stricken localities, including Chandrapur, Pratapgarh, and Baradowali, which lie along the Howrah River. He visited seven relief camps and interacted with displaced residents to understand their needs and evaluate the adequacy of the arrangements in place.
“Over the past two days, heavy rainfall has caused significant damage not only in Tripura but also in Assam. Thankfully, the water levels in Agartala are now receding, indicating that our drainage system is functioning effectively,” stated the Chief Minister. He noted that 24 relief camps have been established in the affected regions, stocked with ample food and medical supplies. “Medical teams are stationed at these camps, and strict sanitation measures are enforced. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Apada Mitra, Tripura Police, and local volunteers are working tirelessly to ensure public safety,” Dr. Saha emphasized.
He highlighted that all departments, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation, are collaborating closely to manage the crisis. Water pumps have been deployed across the city to eliminate water-logged areas. Public announcements are also in place advising residents in vulnerable zones to relocate to safer positions. Dr. Saha was accompanied by Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, MP Rajib Bhattacharya, Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey, and West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar during his visit.
