Mizoram’s Lalremtluanga Fanai has signed a three-year contract extension with Bengaluru FC, the Indian Super League (ISL) club announced. This new agreement will keep him at the club until the end of the 2027-28 season. The 20-year-old midfielder has recently emerged as a key player under Spanish coach Gerard Zaragoza, having joined the club in 2020.
“I’m really glad to extend my time here at Bengaluru FC. I came here as a teenager, and I’ve grown immensely in the last four seasons. The coaches and players have been very supportive, and I believe this is the right place for me to grow. I’m looking forward to making more memories with this football club,” Fanai expressed after finalizing his new deal, as reported by the ISL official website.
Fanai progressed through the ranks at Bengaluru FC, starting with the U18 Academy before moving to the BFC Reserves. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, he was called up to the ISL squad. He made his First Team debut against Sreenidi Deccan FC in the 2023 Super Cup and subsequently played his first ISL match against Punjab FC later in the season.
Well-regarded for his ball control and passing ability, Fanai’s robust tackling and smart positioning arise from his keen understanding of the game, allowing him to be in the right place at the right time. Over the past two seasons, he has made 36 appearances in the ISL, impressive statistics for a player of his age.
“At just 20, Fanai demonstrates maturity and composure beyond his years. We’re really impressed with his development over the past two seasons with the First Team. As a player who has come through our ranks, he embodies what we stand for as a club, and we’re pleased to secure his services for the foreseeable future,” stated Darren Caldeira, the Director of Football for Bengaluru FC.
In addition to his club commitments, Fanai has also been selected for Team India’s U23 Probables for upcoming friendlies against Tajikistan U23 and Kyrgyz Republic U23. He follows full-back Naorem Roshan Singh in signing a contract extension with the club, further highlighting Bengaluru FC’s commitment to nurturing young talent.
