Unveiling Heartfelt Emotions: Rohit Sharma’s Touching Confession That Will Move You | Cricket News
NEW DELHI: In an emotional ceremony at Wankhede Stadium, Rohit Sharma expressed heartfelt gratitude to his parents, Gurunath and Poornima Sharma, as a stand bearing his name was unveiled. A teary-eyed Rohit emphasized the sacrifices his family made for his cricketing journey, stating, “It’s going to be even more special, to have my family here. I am grateful for everything they have sacrificed for me.”
The Mumbai Cricket Association organized the event, attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who joined Rohit and his parents in triggering the unveiling, marked by fireworks and confetti. Rohit’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, stood proudly by his side during the emotional moment.
This occasion was not just about Rohit; it honored two other legends of the game, Ajit Wadekar and Sharad Pawar, who also had stands named in their honor. For Rohit, this recognition was a childhood dream realized. “What is going to happen today, I have never dreamed of. As a kid, I wanted to play for Mumbai, for India. To have my name amongst the greats is beyond words,” he reflected.
Rohit, now 38 and having retired from T20 internationals and Test cricket, remains an active player in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He noted, “This is special as I am still playing. It will be surreal when I play on the 21st for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and have a stand here.” This statement highlighted his wish to represent India on the field at Wankhede, a venue etched deeply in his heart.
“I never imagined today would come. While I’ve reached many milestones, something like this is truly special because Wankhede is an iconic stadium with countless memories,” Rohit added. He extended his gratitude to Pawar and Fadnavis, stating, “Special thanks to them for making this such a memorable day.”
Shifting focus from personal achievements, Rohit acknowledged the Mumbai Indians, the IPL franchise he captains, emphasizing their playoff aspirations. “My teammates are here, waiting for my speech to end so we can start training,” he quipped with a smile.
Shortly after the ceremony, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit’s teammate and close friend, praised the captain on social media. “Congratulations @rohitsharma45 for your incredible accomplishments. Your journey from finisher to opener and captain has inspired us all. Wankhede just became even more iconic because of you,” Yadav wrote.
Moreover, Chief Minister Fadnavis recognized Rohit’s contributions to cricket. “Our iconic batter and captain, who mesmerizes with his batting, is here today. If there’s a proposal from the Mumbai Cricket Association for a new stadium, we will support it to accommodate more fans,” he affirmed.
As Rohit Sharma embarks on this new chapter with a stand bearing his name at Wankhede, he stands as a testament to perseverance, talent, and the unwavering support of family and community, inspiring countless aspiring cricketers in India and beyond.
