‘गंगुवाई काठियावाड़ी’ विजय राज को ‘शेरनी’ शूट के दौरान यौन उत्पीड़न मामले में बरी किया गया
Acclaimed actor Vijay Raaz, recognized for his diverse roles in films such as Stree, Delhi Belly, Dedh Ishqiya, and Gully Boy, has been acquitted of all charges in a sexual harassment and stalking case that arose during the filming of the 2021 movie Sherni, starring Vidya Balan. The Gondia Magistrate Court reached its decision after a lengthy legal battle, concluding that there was no evidence to substantiate the claims made by a female crew member.
Raaz’s legal troubles began on November 4, 2020, when he was arrested in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh. Although he was granted bail the same day, the allegations had profound effects on his career, forcing him to exit the film shoot midway and resulting in professional setbacks. The complaint, lodged at the Ramnagar police station, alleged that Raaz made inappropriate comments regarding the woman’s appearance and attempted to adjust her mask without her consent at a hotel where the film crew was staying. The complainant had initially raised her concerns with her seniors prior to filing the formal police report.
Tragically, the woman passed away before the trial could conclude. Nevertheless, the court proceeded with the available evidence and testimonies, ultimately exonerating Raaz. His lawyer, Saveena Bedi Sachar, expressed relief at the verdict, emphasizing that her client has consistently maintained his innocence. “These allegations have cost him work and tarnished his reputation. Now that he has been declared innocent, we hope it serves as a caution against the hasty rush to judgment before examining the facts,” Sachar remarked in a statement.
Despite the controversy surrounding the case, Raaz has continued to make significant contributions to cinema post-Sherni. His performances in Gangubai Kathiawadi, Kathal, Chandu Champion, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 have garnered attention. In 2025, he made an appearance in Fateh, marking the directorial debut of actor Sonu Sood.
