Holycross School Launches Inspiring Awareness Program for Students
Holy Cross School in Agartala hosted a vital child protection and safety awareness program on May 15, 2025, aimed at its Class ‘D’ employees. The initiative, focusing on safeguarding children and understanding the POCSO Act of 2012, was an essential step toward enhancing child welfare.
Fr. K.J. Abraham, the Chairman of the Holy Cross Foundation and an experienced child psychologist, led the session. He holds a diploma in child protection from Rome, Italy, bringing both expertise and authority to the discussion. Assisting him was Madam Supriya Chakraborty, the Public Relations Officer of Holy Cross School and a trained child mental health professional from NIMHANS and CISCE. Her role was crucial in ensuring that all staff could follow the presentation in their native language.
The emphasis of Fr. Abraham’s message was on respect, care, and moral guidance for children, regardless of their backgrounds. He encouraged staff members to manage students with kindness, offering necessary support even during challenging situations. He also underscored the importance of communication with parents, emphasizing that any concerns regarding a child’s well-being should be reported immediately through the appropriate channels, such as the receptionist, nurse, or teachers.
Fr. Abraham further highlighted the necessity of appropriate attire and body language when interacting with students. His assertion centered on the educators’ and caregivers’ roles in molding young minds to become ethical and responsible citizens. He reiterated that the community’s values should reflect in the education system.
During the session, Fr. Abraham delved into the details of the POCSO Act, explaining its applications and the critical need for adherence to child protection laws. He urged everyone to prioritize children’s well-being above religious and social differences, ensuring that they grow up happy, secure, and morally strong.
Holy Cross School maintains its unwavering commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for its students. The institution recognizes that the responsibility of safeguarding children’s rights and well-being lies with its educators and staff.
