Empowering Progress: S. Jaishankar on the Crucial India-US Trade Deal Talks Amid Trump’s Bold ‘Zero Tariff’ Claim
India has seemingly countered President Donald Trump’s assertion that New Delhi is offering a zero-tariff trade deal to the United States. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar clarified the status of the ongoing negotiations while speaking to reporters on Thursday, just hours after Trump’s claim.
Jaishankar emphasized that the trade discussions between India and the U.S. are ongoing and complex. “Between India and the U.S., trade talks have been ongoing. These are complicated negotiations. Nothing is decided till everything is,” he stated, highlighting the intricacies involved in reaching a conclusive agreement.
The Union minister further indicated that any assessment regarding a potential India-U.S. trade deal is “premature” until a formal agreement is finalized. “Any trade deal has to be mutually beneficial; it has to work for both countries. That would be our expectation from the trade deal. Until that is done, any judgment on it would be premature,” he remarked.
As negotiations continue, the focus remains on how both nations can achieve a balanced deal that meets their respective economic interests. The dialogue underscores the broader economic relationship between the two countries, which is of significant importance given their roles on the global stage.
This story is developing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
