KSU Criticizes MPSC for Lack of Transparency in Exam Results

By Our Reporter
SHILLONG, Aug 3: A recent controversy has erupted as candidates of the Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) preliminary examination have accused the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) of nepotism and lack of transparency. Anonymously writing to the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), the candidates expressed gratitude to the Union for bringing alleged examination ‘malpractices’ to light.

The candidates claimed that the daughter of the MPSC Secretary, who objected to KSU’s demand for mark disclosure, was selected for a Lower Division Assistant (LDA) post, hinting at possible favoritism. They have called on the KSU to take decisive action to ensure a transparent and fair selection process, advocating for merit over connections.

Heightening the discourse on fairness in the MPSC’s selection procedures, the KSU has been actively pushing for mark disclosure to reinforce a merit-based system. The matter remains under investigation, adding intense public scrutiny and pressure on the MPSC to justify its practices.

Rueben A Najiar, Chairman of KSU’s Employment and Monitoring Cell, condemned MPSC’s decision to withhold candidates’ marks despite an earlier agreement to release them. Najiar highlighted that the MPSC had previously released the scoresheet for the 2019 Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) examination, showcasing their capability to make such information public.

The allegation that six candidates, including the MPSC Secretary’s daughter, objected to the public disclosure of marks has deepened concerns about the examination’s integrity. In response, KSU has mobilized all MCS preliminary examination candidates, urging them to email applications demanding full mark disclosure from the MPSC. This move has fostered solidarity among candidates, uniting them in a campaign for accountability and transparency.

With the investigation ongoing, the KSU remains steadfast in its mission to ensure that the MPSC adheres to principles of transparency and fairness in its examination and selection processes.
