In London, the Royal Opera has disclosed plans for Netrebko to return for the first time in six years, opening their season with a new production of Puccini’s “Tosca.” Additionally, she will perform in a revival of Puccini’s “Turandot” in December and deliver a recital next year. The Royal Opera clarified in a statement that being of Russian nationality should not be equated with support for the Kremlin’s current regime. They highlighted that Netrebko has publicly condemned the war in Ukraine and has avoided returning to Russia since 2022.
Though a representative for Netrebko declined to comment, her efforts to make a comeback in the American opera scene continue. Earlier this year, she performed at a Palm Beach Opera gala in Florida. While her full return to high-profile U.S. stages remains unannounced, her European engagements demonstrate significant support from some of the industry’s leading opera houses.
