Hungary’s Durchsse Summer Vacation Goes Offrut on Tragic Scale in Meghalaya
Cherapunji, Meghalaya – The body of Hungarian tourist Zsolt Puskas, who went missing on March 29, has been found in a decomposed state in a remote area of Cherapunji, according to police sources quoted by NDTV. The discovery marks the end of a four-day search-and-rescue operation led by the state police, Home Guards, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local volunteers.
The Hungarian Embassy alerted the local authorities after Puskas failed to return, prompting the police to launch a search operation. Investigators believe that Puskas may have had an accidental fall, based on the findings of the probe. The 29-year-old tourist had checked into a hotel in Laitumkhrah on March 29 at 3:45 AM and checked out hours later at 9:00 AM. He then took a local taxi to Mawsahew, near Sohra, and reportedly started a solo trek to Mawkawir, with plans to reach Nongriat.
Puskas’s movement was captured on CCTV camera, showing him getting out of the taxi and setting off on his journey. It was nearly three weeks later that his body was found in a partially decomposed state in a steep-sloped area of Ramdait village, along the route to Tyrna in Shella. The exact circumstances of his death remain unclear, but authorities suspect that his solo trek may have contributed to his tragic demise.
The search operation was extensive, involving multiple agencies and local volunteers. The discovery of Puskas’s body brings an end to the relief efforts, but it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety precautions while traveling, especially in remote and unfamiliar areas. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the risks associated with solo travel, particularly in areas with challenging terrain and unpredictable weather conditions.
The Meghalaya Police have launched an investigation into the incident, seeking to determine the exact circumstances of Puskas’s death. The Hungarian Embassy has been informed, and arrangements are being made to repatriate the tourist’s body to his homeland.
