Shocking Twist: Accused Auto Driver Shot During Desperate Escape in Sivaganga Police Constable Murder Case
In the early hours of March 24, 2025, a dramatic encounter unfolded in the outskirts of Madurai district, where a sub-inspector of Madurai rural district police allegedly opened fire on an accused in a murder case. The incident occurred near Perungudi when SI Marikannan, of Tirumangalam, purportedly acted in self-defence while confronting Moovendran, the primary suspect in the gruesome murder of police constable Malaiarasan. This case has gripped the local community as authorities piece together the events leading to the fatal attack and its aftermath.
According to Madurai Superintendent of Police B.K. Arvind, a special police team had apprehended Moovendran and taken him to the scene of the crime on the Madurai-Thoothukudi Inner Ring Road. It was here, just a week prior, that the charred body of constable Malaiarasan had been discovered. During a reenactment of the crime, Moovendran reportedly retrieved a hidden knife and attacked SI Marikannan, inflicting injuries to his hand. “In response, the sub-inspector, fearing for his life, discharged his service pistol, injuring Moovendran in the leg,” Arvind stated. Both men were subsequently admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, receiving treatment for their injuries.
The murder of constable Malaiarasan, part of an elite special crime team from Sivaganga district, has unravelled a complex narrative marked by betrayal and desperation. Reports indicate that Malaiarasan, under the influence of alcohol, had hired Moovendran, an auto driver, for a ride to Arapalayam. The journey, however, took a sinister turn when Malaiarasan offered a larger fare, leading the intoxicated constable to inadvertently reveal his mobile payment PIN. Moovendran, burdened by debt, seized the opportunity to commit a heinous act for monetary gain, according to police findings.
In a gruesome sequence of events, Moovendran allegedly coerced the constable into consuming more alcohol before luring him to a desolate area along the Inner Ring Road. It was there that Malaiarasan was reportedly set ablaze, his body left to burn. Disturbingly, Moovendran then sought help from two unsuspecting strangers, convincing them to transfer large sums of money using the deceased constable’s mobile phone. Police have disclosed that Moovendran managed to withdraw ₹80,000 through these individuals, manipulating their bank transactions to his advantage.
Authorities are now intensifying the search for Siva, a friend of Moovendran, who is believed to have been aware of the murder plot but fled the scene before its execution. It is alleged that Siva later received ₹10,000 from Moovendran, an act that has placed him firmly in the police’s focus as a potential accessory after the fact.
This tragic incident raises significant questions about trust, desperation, and the consequences of crime, while highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement officers in maintaining security. As the investigation continues, the Tamil Nadu police are working tirelessly to ensure justice for Malaiarasan and bring all involved parties to account. The community now waits in anticipation of further developments in a case that underscores the dark complexities of human actions and the relentless pursuit of justice.
