700 Widows in Manipur’s Bishnupur District Receive Essential Aid

Imphal: In a humanitarian gesture, 700 widows from the Moirang assembly constituency in Manipur’s Bishnupur district were provided with rice and essential household items. The distribution event, held at Naransena Community Hall, was organized by Dev Pro India and New Life Foundation on Sunday.

This initiative marked the first phase of aid distribution in response to a recent natural disaster affecting Manipur. The second phase is scheduled for August 5, 2024, at Thamnapokpi village in the same district.

Beneficiaries hailed from various villages, including Khudekpi, Tronglaobi, Ngangkhalawai, Naransena, Sugnu Siphai, Phubala, and several wards within the Moirang Municipal Council. The distributed items included rice, fermented dry fish, salt packets, and edible oil.

During the event, Dr. Lamabam Pishak, General Secretary of the New Life Foundation’s Manipur unit, announced plans to extend assistance to more targeted beneficiaries in the coming days.

One widow expressed her gratitude, highlighting that this support was crucial amidst the ongoing communal violence between communities, particularly involving areas near Churachandpur, a conflict epicenter since May 3, 2023.

This initiative underscores the collaborative efforts to provide relief to affected communities in the region.
