Railway Protection Force Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Migrants in Northeast
Maligaon, July 28 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway has significantly intensified its efforts against illegal migration, detaining a total of 88 individuals in recent operations. Throughout June 2024, RPF apprehended 47 illegal migrants and five Indian agents during routine checks. By July 23, an additional 41 illegal migrants had been detained, demonstrating the force’s ongoing vigilance.
One notable incident occurred on July 2, when an RPF team at Agartala Railway Station detained 11 individuals—nine females and two males—of questionable nationality. Upon interrogation, these individuals failed to produce valid documents and later admitted to crossing into India illegally from Bangladesh.
Further action was taken on July 23, when four Bangladeshi nationals were detained at Agartala station as they prepared to travel to Kolkata by train. All detained individuals were handed over to the Government Railway Police at Agartala for further legal proceedings.
Additional detentions were reported from Badarpur and New Jalpaiguri stations during routine RPF checks, further highlighting the RPF’s dedicated crackdown on illegal migration in the region.
