Breaking News: Manu Bhaker Breaks India’s 12-Year Olympic Shooting Medal Drought

Manu Bhaker has secured India’s first medal at the Paris Olympics, ending a 12-year drought for the nation in Olympic shooting events. With this achievement, she has become the fifth Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal, joining the esteemed group of Abhinav Bindra, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Vijay Kumar, and Gagan Narang.

On Sunday, Bhaker started the final with confidence and charmed the Indian crowd as she smiled at the TV cameras when her name was announced. Throughout the eight-woman final, Bhaker maintained her composure and stayed within the top three contenders.

Korea’s Oh Ye Jin clinched the gold medal with a record-breaking score of 243.2, followed closely by compatriot Kim Yeji who took the silver with a score of 241.3. In a thrilling final elimination round, Bhaker and Kim Yeji battled intensely for the second spot. Bhaker showcased remarkable determination, scoring 10.1 and 10.3 in her last two shots. However, Kim, despite scoring slightly lower with 9.7 and 9.8, managed to edge out Bhaker by a narrow margin.

This historic win places Bhaker in an elite group of Indian shooters who have triumphed on the world’s biggest stage, reaffirming India’s prowess in shooting sports.
