Chhaava Director’s Inspiring Commitment After Meeting with Raj Thackeray: ‘Objectionable’ Scenes Will Be Removed
Chhaava Director Promises to Cut Controversial Scenes After Meeting Raj Thackeray
In a recent development, filmmaker Laxman Uttekar reassured the public that any contentious scenes from his upcoming film Chhaava will be excised. This announcement followed a meeting between Uttekar and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray. The film, starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has stirred controversy over its portrayal of the historical figure, particularly scenes involving Lezim, a traditional folk dance.
The decision to remove these sections comes in the wake of discontent expressed by Maharashtra minister Uday Samant, who was particularly concerned about a scene depicting Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj dancing. Samant warned that the film’s release could be hindered if the scene remained. Echoing this sentiment, Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, advocated for the film to be shown to historians to ensure historical accuracy.
Chhaava, directed by Laxman Uttekar, is a historical drama centered on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of the Maratha Empire’s founder, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Alongside Vicky Kaushal, the film features Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta.
Set for a February 14, 2025 release, Chhaava promises to marry cinematic storytelling with historical sensitivity, following the filmmaker’s commitment to maintaining respect for cultural sentiments.
