Tragic Explosion Claims Eight Lives at Maharashtra Ordnance Factory: Heartbreaking Mumbai News Unfolds
A devastating explosion occurred on Friday morning at an ordnance factory in Jawahar Nagar, Bhandara district, Maharashtra, resulting in the deaths of eight workers and injuries to five others. The explosion, which happened at approximately 10:45 am in the RDX manufacturing section, was so powerful that it was felt in neighboring villages and heard up to five kilometers away. The cause of the blast has yet to be determined, and a special investigation team has been tasked with probing the incident.
Rescue operations were carried out by personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local fire department, and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The operation began in the morning and concluded around 9 pm once all individuals trapped in the rubble were accounted for. Bhandara District Collector Sanjay Kolte reported that the factory’s roof and slab collapsed, complicating rescue efforts. NDRF Assistant Commandant Nikhil Mudholkar noted that bodies were manually extracted from the debris due to the risk of igniting the site with flash cutters.
The victims were identified as Chandrashekhar Goswami, Manoj Meshram, Ajay Nagdeve, Ankit Barai, Laxman Kelvade, Abhishek Chaurasiya, Dharma Rangari, and Sanjar Karemore. Those injured include N P Vanjari, Sanjay Raut, Rajesh Badwaik, Sunil Kumar Yadav, and Jaydeep Banerjee. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed their condolences to the victims’ families and wished for the injured’s swift recovery. Singh, in a post on social media, affirmed the commitment to aid those affected by the tragedy and highlighted the ongoing rescue efforts.
This tragic accident raises critical questions regarding safety protocols in ordnance manufacturing and underscores the need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
