Shocking Allegation: Assam CM Accused in Coal Syndicate Scandal by APCC Chief
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah has accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of being involved in the coal syndicate in Assam. Borah criticized the BJP for disregarding constitutional rights and principles, allegedly causing hardship for citizens. During an event for the Congress’ Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan campaign in Nazira, Borah questioned why rescue efforts were needed for miners trapped in an illegal mine in Umrangso, Dima Hasao, if no coal syndicate existed.
Borah further alleged that the spouse of Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, was running the syndicate with backing from the BJP government. He warned that the BJP posed a threat to the Indian Constitution, citing Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s past remarks on BR Ambedkar and recent comments by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
He also condemned the state government for targeting dissenters, misusing agencies like the CBI and Enforcement Directorate, and neglecting issues like rising prices and delayed Panchayat elections. Borah mentioned that delays could result in the central government reclaiming Rs 1,100 crore allocated to Assam.
Nazira MLA and Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, emphasized the Congress campaign’s focus on protecting democracy and the Constitution, noting concerns over judicial independence and the autonomy of Central agencies. Former Union minister Paban Singh Ghatowar and other Congress leaders participated in the event, echoing themes of safeguarding democratic institutions and rights.
