Powerful 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Assam – Relieved as No Casualties Reported
An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale shook Assam and several northeastern states at midnight on Friday, but there were no reports of damage or injuries, according to official confirmations. The tremors sparked panic among locals but resulted in no casualties or property damage.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located in Myanmar, at a depth of 106 kilometers. The widespread tremors across the region raised concerns among the residents of the northeastern states.
This incident comes shortly after two consecutive earthquakes were recorded in Manipur on Wednesday night. The first quake, with a magnitude of 4.3, struck the Pherzawl district, near the borders with Mizoram and Assam, at a depth of 40 kilometers. Less than an hour later, a second tremor of 3.3 magnitude was recorded in the Churachandpur district, near the borders of Mizoram and Myanmar, at a depth of 30 kilometers.
While these seismic activities have stirred unease among the population, they have not resulted in any immediate harm to people or structures. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the affected areas.
