In the South Garo Hills district’s Siju area, the Garo Students Union (GSU) Siju regional unit has drawn attention to the ongoing delay and challenges faced by students at an incomplete Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) school. The construction of this model school, initially sanctioned by the Ministry of Human Resource Development during the financial year 2012-2013, remains unfinished, impacting the education of local students.
The GSU Siju regional unit expressed concern over the lack of progress, highlighting that the absence of a completed school is depriving students of necessary educational facilities. In their appeal, they emphasized the urgent need for the authorities to address this issue to prevent further disruption to the students’ learning experience.
Tura Member of Parliament, Saleng A. Sangma, was briefed on the situation by the GSU, urging him to take necessary action to expedite the completion of the project. The GSU has emphasized that the continued delay not only affects students’ academic pursuits but also places a burden on the community as well as the students’ families, who are forced to seek alternative and often inconvenient arrangements for education.
In addition to the infrastructural challenges, concerns were raised about the financial implications of the delay. The GSU noted that ongoing postponements in the school’s completion might lead to increased costs, further complicating the situation for both the government and the local community. They urged the authorities to allocate and release the necessary funds to ensure the school’s timely completion.
