Preliminary works are in progress for the construction of a new flyover in Agartala city, Tripura, aimed at easing traffic congestion. A senior Tripura government official, speaking anonymously to India Today NE, confirmed the plans for a flyover stretching approximately 2.3 kilometers. This infrastructure project will connect Radhanagar Bus Stand to Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital.
Key preparatory steps, including soil testing and land acquisition, are actively underway. Soil tests have already been conducted at Colonel Chowmuhani, with another planned at Bidurkarta Chowmuhani in the city. These tests and surveys are critical for assessing the feasibility and planning the detailed construction of the flyover.
The possibility of an additional flyover is also under consideration, although no definitive plans have been announced yet. This development highlights the administration’s proactive approach to managing Agartala’s traffic issues by expanding the city’s infrastructure.
Agartala witnessed the inauguration of its first flyover in October 2019. The 2.3 km-long, two-lane flyover, costing approximately Rs 300 crore, was constructed to connect Fire Brigade Chowmuhani to Arundhatinagar Drop Gate through Battala, marking significant progress in the city’s transportation facilities.
The upcoming flyover will mark a strategic enhancement to Agartala’s road network, promising to decongest traffic and facilitate smoother travel. As the preparatory works advance, further announcements from the government are anticipated regarding the project’s timeline and additional infrastructure initiatives aimed at addressing the city’s growing transportation needs.
