Chandu Champion OTT Release Date Announced
Directed by Kabir Khan, the biographical sports drama "Chandu Champion" stars Kartik Aryan and chronicles the gripping journey of an athlete who overcomes insurmountable challenges. The film, which premiered in theaters on June 14, showcases Aryan as Chandu, a character who faces numerous setbacks, ranging from being shortchanged by people to enduring war wounds. These adversities force him to abandon his Olympic gold medal dreams, only to later discover the Paralympics. The film is inspired by the life of Murli Petkar, the first Indian to win a gold medal at the Paralympics. Given the coinciding Paris Olympics 2024, interest in the movie’s OTT release has been high.
"Chandu Champion" garnered considerable attention at the box office, amassing ₹61.8 crore in India and an additional ₹13.75 crore overseas. The opening week was particularly strong, raking in ₹35.25 crore. However, the film’s earnings saw a sharp 76.05% decline by the third week, dropping to ₹4.85 crore.
Fans of Kartik Aryan can now look forward to the film’s OTT release on Amazon Prime, starting August 9. Aryan described his experience portraying an athlete as “incredible and an honour," adding his best wishes to the Indian team competing at the Paris Olympics. His trainer, national-level boxer Tridev Pandey, emphasized the challenges of realistically depicting sports on screen, noting that a proper portrayal requires the actor to have an in-depth understanding of the sport itself.
In related news, another sports film, "Mr. and Mrs. Mahi," featuring Rajkumar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, was released on Netflix on July 26.
