Union Health Minister Unveils Transformative Projects to Revolutionize State’s Medical Services
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, on Wednesday inaugurated several healthcare initiatives in Assam, marking a significant boost to the state’s medical infrastructure. Accompanied by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sonitpur MP Ranjit Dutta, and Health Minister Ashok Singhal, Nadda visited Tezpur and Darrang to unveil projects aimed at enhancing healthcare services in the region.
In Tezpur, Nadda inaugurated the Library and Informatics Centre at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH). This new facility is set to advance mental health education and research, reflecting efforts to strengthen mental health services. Chief Minister Sarma applauded the central government’s support, noting it as a critical step in empowering one of India’s oldest mental health centers.
Speaking about the institution’s development, Nadda emphasized the swift implementation of approved proposals under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He also chaired a meeting with the Board of Governors to strategize on improving mental health education and services across the region.
In Darrang, Nadda, alongside Chief Minister Sarma, addressed a rally to announce the establishment of critical care blocks across Assam. Among these, a 50-bed critical care block at Mangaldai Civil Hospital will be set up with a central funding of Rs 23.75 crore. Sarma disclosed plans for 28 such blocks across Assam, enhancing facilities with essential services like ICU and pediatric ICU.
Additionally, Sarma highlighted the expansion of the Namrup Fertiliser Company, poised to boost production to 12 lakh metric tonnes, benefiting the agricultural sector. Addressing local concerns, he announced the forthcoming recognition and construction of the Darrang Medical College, expected to start within six months. These developments signify crucial advancements in Assam’s healthcare and agricultural landscape.
