Urgent Plea for Peace: Naga Body Implores CoTU to End Disruptive NH-2 Blockades for Harmony in Manipur
The Naga People’s Organization (NPO) in Senapati, Manipur, has called on the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) in Sadar Hill, Kangpokpi, to cease frequent blockades on National Highway 2. This highway is a crucial artery for transportation in the region. While the NPO respects CoTU’s right to protest perceived governmental inaction and injustices, they stress that such actions should not compromise the Naga community’s well-being in the Senapati district. The organization underscores the importance of maintaining traffic flow and safety on NH-2.
The NPO expressed alarm over the hardships these blockades cause to Senapati’s residents, who depend heavily on this route. As a social advocacy group, the NPO acknowledges the complexities within the ongoing Manipur conflict but insists on preserving NH-2 as a “safe zone” to ensure the free and safe movement of goods and people.
Furthermore, the NPO urged both State and Central Governments to address these issues promptly. Despite the heavy deployment of security forces on NH-2, the route persistently remains unsafe for transportation. The organization advocates for a collaborative approach to these challenges, encouraging CoTU to act with responsibility and consideration. This would facilitate peaceful coexistence and maintain the efficiency of this essential highway.
In an effort to resolve tensions, the NPO emphasizes urgent government intervention and highlights the need for CoTU to adopt a more cooperative stance. This appeal aims to ensure the essential service the highway provides remains uninterrupted, fostering stability and continuity in the region’s transportation network.
