Empowering Change: Government Unveils Groundbreaking ‘Jagruti’ Program to Revolutionize Road Safety and Consumer Rights Awareness

Agartala, January 4, 2025 — The state government is initiating a new program called ‘Jagruti’ to enhance student awareness about road safety and consumer rights. Announced by Transport and Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury at a press conference in the Secretariat, the initiative will officially launch on January 11, 2025.

Minister Chowdhury revealed that the ‘Jagruti’ program will be a collaborative effort between the Food Department and the Transport Department, taking place annually in January and February. The program will feature a series of quiz competitions focusing on road safety, consumer rights, and the adverse effects of addiction for students from 25 degree colleges statewide.

The first quiz event will be held on January 11 in Udaipur, targeting students from Gomti, South Tripura, and Sepahijala districts. Subsequent events are scheduled for January 18 in Kumarghat, covering Dhalai, Unakoti, and North Tripura districts, and January 27 in Agartala for West and Khowai districts. The final competition is set for February 8, 2025, in Agartala, featuring top teams from each event. Winners will receive attractive prizes.

In addition to quizzes, the ‘Jagruti’ initiative will include helmet distribution among college students and rallies promoting road safety, consumer rights, and awareness of addiction dangers. The program is supported by the School of Science and Tripura Info.com.

Chowdhury emphasized the need for timely registration for the quizzes: by January 10 for the January 11 event, by January 14 for the January 18 event, and by January 25 for the January 27 event. He also shared plans to expand the program to school levels in the future.

Also present at the press conference were Subrata Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of the Transport Department, Sumit Lodh, Director of the Food Department, Abhijit Bhattacharya, Head of the School of Science, and Jayanta Debnath, Managing Director of Tripura Info.com.
