Joyful Celebrations: Sikkim CM Heartily Extends Warm Greetings for Losoong and Namsoong Festivals
In Gangtok, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Governor Om Prakash Mathur extended festive greetings to the people of Sikkim in celebration of Losoong and Namsoong. CM Tamang conveyed his heartfelt wishes to all Sikkimese, particularly the Bhutia and Lepcha communities. He highlighted these festivals as a time for reflection on unity and a celebration of heritage, marking the end of the harvest season and the New Year’s start. Tamang called for embracing the opportunity to enhance peace, mutual respect, and progress within the state, hoping the festivities would bring joy and prosperity to every household.
Governor Mathur also offered his warm greetings, emphasizing the festivals as a celebration of nature and communal harmony. He noted that Losoong and Namsoong signify the Sikkimese tradition of living in sync with nature while reinforcing the bonds of brotherhood. Mathur encouraged the joyous sharing of the harvest’s bounty, reflecting the deep-rooted spirit of unity and respect among different communities in Sikkim. He expressed hopes for these festivities to enhance understanding and prosperity for all.
Losoong-Namsoong marks the Sikkimese New Year, commencing from the 29th of the tenth month in the Tibetan lunar calendar and lasting a week. Lepchas and Bhutias recognize these festivals as Namsoong and Losoong, respectively, celebrating the completion of the harvest.
