India Triumphs: Unstoppable Renewable Energy Surge Shatters 200 GW Milestone!
Glimpses of India’s Renewable Energy Strides in 2024: A Year-End Review
In a significant leap towards reshaping India’s energy profile, 2024 witnessed several milestones in the realm of renewable energy under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Driven by the Panchamrit goals outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government made substantial progress towards the target of 500 Giga Watt of non-fossil fuel energy capacity.
According to reports, by September 2024, India achieved a noteworthy milestone, surpassing 200 Giga Watt in total installed renewable energy capacity. This represents a commendable 14 percent rise from the previous year and underscores the nation’s commitment to sustainable energy transformation.
In a bid to further enhance solar energy adoption, February 2024 saw the launch of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This ambitious initiative aims to equip one crore households with rooftop solar panels, significantly boosting India’s solar energy capacity, which now stands at an impressive 94 Giga Watt.
Another monumental step was the initiation of the National Green Hydrogen Mission with a significant budget of 600 crore rupees. This mission endeavors to reduce the nation’s reliance on fossil fuel imports by one lakh crore rupees, while also aiming to slash carbon emissions by five million metric tonnes by 2030. The overarching objective is to position India as a global leader in green hydrogen production and export. By 2030, this mission is expected to generate over 6 lakh jobs and attract investments exceeding 8 lakh crore rupees.
These initiatives reflect India’s resolute dedication to environmental stewardship and its vision to transition into a sustainable energy powerhouse. As the nation advances in its renewable journey, it continues to set benchmarks for others in the global arena, driving both economic growth and ecological balance.
