Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Monday that seven members of a militant group have been detained for questioning in connection with the recent deaths of two migrant laborers from Bihar. The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Kakching district, where two teenage construction workers were shot dead. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed sorrow over the tragic event and declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased.
Speaking at a media interaction during the Vijay Diwas celebration, CM Singh indicated suspicions of political motivation behind the killings. He stated, “Seven members of an outfit have been picked up, and interrogation is underway to determine their involvement. We are committed to identifying those responsible.”
In his Vijay Diwas address, Singh paid homage to those who sacrificed their lives for Bangladesh’s liberation, acknowledging the contributions of soldiers from Manipur. He conveyed his respects and best wishes to the families of martyrs and the people of Bangladesh liberated by the Indian Army, expressing pride in being part of this significant historical event.
