Heartwarming Triumph: Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival Fosters Unbreakable Bonds Celebrating Humanity
The 25th edition of the Hornbill Festival, famously dubbed the ‘Festival of Festivals,’ unfolded over ten days at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, showcasing Nagaland’s rich cultural tapestry. Concluding with a ceremonial bonfire on December 10, the event was celebrated as a successful reflection of the state’s heritage and cultural unity.
Nagaland’s Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, emphasized the festival’s broader theme of transcending cultural and tribal boundaries to embrace global humanity. He acknowledged Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s visionary leadership in fostering a spirit of unity and enthusiasm among the Nagas.
Highlighting the collaborative cultural experiences, this year’s festival welcomed Japan, the USA, the United Kingdom (Wales), Peru, and Bulgaria as country partners, while Sikkim and Telangana participated as partner states. Gloria Berbena, Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy at the US Embassy in New Delhi, graced the closing ceremony with her presence.
The festival was a testament to the collaborative efforts of various departments and individuals. Minister Along expressed his gratitude to the Department of Art & Culture and its Advisor, K Konngam Konyak, for successfully bringing diverse artists to the festival. He also applauded the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA) for providing ample opportunities in music and arts.
Security and logistical support from the Nagaland Police were commended, as well as the cooperation of line departments led by Chief Secretary Dr. J Alam. Along extended his thanks to the churches, communities, media, and international and state partners for their contributions to the festival’s success.
The event, organized by Nagaland’s Tourism Department, served as a tribute to the great Hornbill, a significant bird in Naga culture. As the ceremonial bonfire was lit by Along and Miss Nagaland 2024, Anon Konyak, among others, attendees were left with indelible memories of the vibrant cultural presentations and musical performances.
