The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has levied a hefty fine of Rs 4 lakh on an individual for installing unauthorised hoardings and posters with the enigmatic message “What is your name?” or “Tomar Naam ki?” throughout Agartala. These cryptic advertisements initially aroused curiosity and confusion among the city’s residents.
AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder addressed the situation, highlighting the municipal authority’s efforts to unravel the mystery behind these unmarked displays. The mayor noted that these posters had been up for some time, stirring curiosity due to their lack of attribution. As the matter gained traction online, AMC launched an investigation to trace the origin of these advertisements and verify whether they had been sanctioned.
The investigation concluded with the discovery that no official permission had been granted for these displays. CCTV footage pinpointed a resident of Abhoynagar as the individual responsible for putting up the posters, acting on behalf of a company. In response to these findings, the municipal authorities acted swiftly, serving a notice to the individual involved and imposing a significant fine of Rs 4 lakh for the unauthorised advertising campaign.
To mitigate any further unauthorized use of public space, AMC deployed teams across the city to remove all such posters and hoardings. This decisive action underscores the municipality’s commitment to ensuring that city regulations regarding public displays are strictly adhered to, thus maintaining order and clarity in public spaces.
