In a shocking case from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, a court has sentenced Radha Devi, along with her 28-year-old lover Kanhaiya Kumar, her 55-year-old father Yogendra Singh, and her 35-year-old brother Anuj Kumar, to life imprisonment for the murder of her husband, Jogendra Kumar, in 2022. The court’s decision hinged significantly on the testimony of Radha’s 6-year-old son.
The crime unfolded on August 13, 2022, when Radha and Kanhaiya, confronted by Jogendra after he discovered their illicit affair, murdered him. Initially, Radha attempted to mislead the family by claiming that Jogendra had died from a head injury caused by a fall down the stairs. However, Jogendra’s mother, Sheela Devi, grew suspicious and insisted on a CT scan, which revealed a bullet lodged in his head, prompting the family to notify the police.
The investigation disclosed that Radha had taken Jogendra and their children to her maternal home in Arniya village three days before the incident. On the day of the murder, as Jogendra slept, Kanhaiya shot him in the head while Radha, her father, and brother restrained him. Family members had reportedly supported Radha due to Jogendra’s history of frequent abuse over minor issues.
An FIR was filed under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 34 (criminal conspiracy) following the family’s complaint. In the trial conducted by Additional District Judge Vivek Kumar, the prosecution presented evidence strengthened by the poignant testimony of Radha’s young son. The boy, awakened by the gunshot, witnessed the murder and reported threats made against him by the accused. Each convict received a life sentence along with a fine of Rs 50,000.
