Breaking: HC Adjourns Vital Petition to Parade 15 Majestic Elephants at Poornathrayeesa Temple Festival
The Kerala High Court has postponed further hearings to Wednesday on a petition requesting the permission to parade 15 elephants during the ‘Vrischikotsavam’ festival at the Thripunithura Poornathrayeesa Temple. This delay comes in light of existing guidelines that necessitate maintaining a three-metre distance between elephants in festival processions. Petitioners P.B. Gireesh and P.S. Shoben are seeking a directive from the Cochin Devaswom Board to ensure all rituals, including the traditional ‘Ezhunnallippu’ elephant parade, proceed during the festival, which commenced on Friday. The Bench led by Justice Anil K. Narendran and Justice S. Muralee Krishna deferred the matter for further deliberation. The petitioners emphasized the historical significance of parading 15 elephants, citing the sale of 14 gold caparisons from the Poornathrayeesa Temple to finance the Shoranur-Kochi railway line in 1902 as evidence of this enduring tradition.
