Breaking: Devendra Fadnavis’s Strategic Meeting with Mohan Bhagwat at RSS Headquarters in Nagpur Sparks Excitement After Polling
After polls closed for the 288 constituencies in the Maharashtra state assembly elections, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in Nagpur. Sources indicate that the meeting aimed to express gratitude for RSS’s pivotal role in BJP’s door-to-door campaign efforts. The specifics of their conversation remain private, but insiders suggest it was a courtesy visit. During these elections, unlike before, the RSS actively supported BJP’s campaign, marking a notable shift from previous roles where it limited itself to encouraging voter participation as responsible citizens.
RSS insiders revealed that their proactive engagement was driven by concerns over the polarisation seen after the Lok Sabha elections, which they sought to counter through extensive outreach programs. Though the RSS denies meddling in BJP politics, it reportedly felt compelled to act against divisive tactics affecting Maharashtra’s social fabric.
Fadnavis, running for a sixth term from Nagpur South West, cast his vote alongside his family, and Bhagwat also voted in the Mahal area. Previously, Fadnavis acknowledged the RSS’s influence, clarifying that while the organisation doesn’t intervene directly, its associated groups are impactful in various social arenas. He highlighted that their indirect support has helped BJP challenge opposition narratives.
Fadnavis criticised Congress’s strategy, referring to “vote jihad,” where divisions were allegedly enforced along religious lines to influence outcomes, as seen in Dhule’s Lok Sabha elections. Despite opposition campaigns against BJP’s remarks, Fadnavis argued that statements like “Batenge to katenge” and “Ek hain to safe hain” should be understood as calls for unity, rather than divisive rhetoric.
RSS and BJP are navigating a complex political landscape, balancing traditional roles with new strategies to bolster their influence amid rising tensions in Maharashtra’s sociopolitical milieu.
