Thrilling Triumph: 12th NAP (IR) Battalion Dominates at 40th Nagaland Police Meet – Exclusive Victory Coverage
The 40th edition of the Nagaland Police Sports-cum-Duty Meet 2024 concluded at the NAPTC Grounds in Chümoukedima on November 20, with the 12th NAP (IR) Battalion emerging as the overall champions. Demonstrating outstanding prowess, the Battalion not only claimed the ‘Duty’ Championship but was also recognized as the ‘Best Discipline Team,’ underscoring their dominance throughout the event. Meanwhile, the 6th Nagaland Armed Police (India Reserve) took home the ‘Games’ Championship title.
This year’s meet featured the Drill competition finals, where the 12th NAP (IR) cut a formidable figure by securing the top spot, leaving the 15th Mahila NAP (IR) and 5th NAP in second and third places, respectively. During the closing ceremony, attended by Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer and Director General of Police Rupin Sharma, Longkumer emphasized the significance of the Meet. He described it as more than just a biennial event, highlighting its role in showcasing the resilience and spirit of the Nagaland Police. He also addressed the dual challenges of cybercrime and online financial frauds, urging for enhanced institutional and capacity-building efforts in infrastructure and human resources.
Rupin Sharma, the DGP, reflected on the NPM’s rich legacy since 1967, which serves as an avenue for identifying exceptional sports talent within the police force. He acknowledged the substantial financial backing for the 2024 edition, with Rs 50 lakh funded by the Chief Minister of Nagaland, and Rs 10 lakh contributions each from corporate sponsors, the Bank of Baroda and the Indian Oil Corporation. Notably, certified referees trained from among police personnel were employed to adjudicate the football and boxing contests, marking a first for the event. Thankfully, the Meet saw no significant injuries, underscoring the high fitness levels of Nagaland Police personnel. Trophies and medals were distributed, marking the successful conclusion of this celebratory event.
