The Meitei diaspora community in Assam has strongly condemned the recent attack in Jakuradhor, Jiribam district, Manipur, calling for immediate and decisive action to resolve the ongoing conflict. They have urged political leaders, including the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister, and state government officials, as well as both the BJP and Congress parties, to put aside their differences and collaborate on finding a lasting solution.
Expressing deep dismay, a community representative criticized the attack and called on Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to urgently address the situation. The representative suggested that if a resolution remains elusive, the state’s Cabinet ministers and MLAs should consider resigning and advocating for Manipur’s sovereignty. The community also voiced dissatisfaction with the state government’s handling of recent violence, particularly concerning six individuals who went missing during the attack.
Highlighting the crucial responsibility of the authorities, the Meitei diaspora emphasized the need for immediate action to locate the missing persons and restore order amid the conflict. The community, profoundly affected by the escalating violence in Manipur, has joined others in demanding comprehensive measures to establish peace and stability.
In addition to these appeals, the Meitei diaspora has also highlighted a separate incident involving a truck loaded with onions that was set ablaze on NH 37, with the Rongmei Nagas also condemning the attack. The community’s plea underscores a widespread call for accountability and effective governance in conflict-affected regions.
Collectively, the Meitei community’s outcry reflects a broader demand for urgent, united efforts from political leaders to address the turmoil and ensure the safety and security of citizens in Manipur.
