Shocking Apology: Uddhav Sena’s Arvind Sawant Regrets Controversial ‘Imported’ Remark on Shaina NC After 55 Years
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant has issued an apology following backlash for his “imported maal” remark, which was perceived as derogatory towards Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC. The comment sparked controversy as Sawant allegedly referred to Shaina, originally from the BJP and a new addition to the Shiv Sena, using what was seen as a sexist term. Addressing the situation, Sawant expressed regret, emphasizing that throughout his five-decade political career, he never intended to insult women. He lamented the misinterpretation of his words and the subsequent targeting of his image.
In response to Sawant’s comment, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde criticized the remark as “unfortunate” and asserted that such disrespect towards women was condemnable, suggesting that if the late Balasaheb Thackeray were alive, Sawant would have faced severe consequences. Meanwhile, Shaina NC highlighted the insult as reflective of Sawant’s mindset and the rival party’s stance.
Following the uproar, a formal complaint was filed against Sawant, leading to an FIR being registered at Nagpada police station. The case falls under sections addressing the outraging of women’s modesty. Both the Election Commission and the Women Commission have taken notice of the issue. Sawant, on his part, clarified that he never directly named Shaina, accusing the Mahayuti alliance (including Shiv Sena, BJP, and NCP) of exploiting the situation to damage his reputation before the Maharashtra elections.
