Visakhapatnam witnessed the launch of the ‘Mission for Pothole-free Roads’ initiative on Saturday, highlighting a focused effort to address the city’s challenging road conditions. The event at Siripuram was marked by Municipal Minister P. Narayana actively participating in the repair of a pothole, underscoring the government’s hands-on approach. Social Welfare Minister and Visakhapatnam district’s in-charge, Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, spearheaded the campaign, personally filling gravel into a pothole as a symbolic gesture of commitment to improving infrastructure.
Accompanying Minister Swamy were key city officials, including Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari, MP M. Sribharat, MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, and GVMC Commissioner P. Sampath Kumar. During the launch, Minister Swamy attributed the deteriorated state of the roads to the previous government’s neglect.
Minister Narayana disclosed that a total of 4,441 potholes have been identified in Visakhapatnam, with repairs completed for 2,009 of them at a cost of ₹6.83 crore. He assured that efforts are underway to address the remaining potholes promptly, aiming to enhance road safety and accessibility for the public.
This dedicated mission aims to swiftly transform Visakhapatnam’s roads, ensuring they are safe and motorable for all residents and visitors.
