Six Coaches of Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express Derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda District
Gonda, Uttar Pradesh: On Thursday, six coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, causing significant disruptions and triggering a large-scale rescue operation. The incident occurred around 2:35 PM, about 3 kilometers east of Jhilahi railway station, according to officials.
The Gonda district administration swiftly deployed officials to the accident site to manage the rescue efforts. Initial reports indicate that approximately 300 passengers were trapped in the derailed coaches, though there is no confirmed information regarding casualties or the extent of injuries at this time.
Sources disclosed that the derailment affected six coaches, including four AC coaches, of the Dibrugarh-bound train between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations. Senior railway officials have arrived at the scene to supervise the ongoing rescue operations and to determine the cause of the derailment, which remains unknown.
Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has reportedly communicated with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, informing him of the directives issued to expedite relief efforts. The Chief Minister has emphasized ensuring proper medical care for the injured passengers. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed these instructions.
