Astounding Journey: Chinese Astronauts Unveil Their Lavish Life Aboard the Tiangong Space Station
Chinese astronauts recently provided an extensive tour of the Tiangong space station, as shown in a video released by China’s state-owned news agency, CCTV. The space station orbits Earth at an altitude of 400 kilometers, and the video demonstrates various aspects of life aboard, guided by the Shenzhou-18 crew. Throughout the nearly seven-minute footage, viewers gain insights into the core module, the sleeping quarters, kitchen facilities with a hot water heater, a dining area, and a greenhouse where cherry tomatoes and lettuce are cultivated.
The astronauts also detail how microgravity influences daily life, such as the custom-designed food catering to individual tastes and water management, where water is stored in pouches due to the inability to pour it into cups. Each astronaut has a personal sleeping area with a porthole offering a “window to the universe” for observing Earth.
The video also features two key lab modules, Wentian and Mengtian, dedicated to various scientific experiments, including animal and plant development under microgravity. These experiments aim to support future long-term missions to the Moon and Mars.
The Shenzhou-18 crew is expected to return to Earth shortly, to be replaced by the Shenzhou-19 crew. China’s space program has seen significant advancements, assembling three modules of the Tiangong space station within two years, with aspirations to land humans on the Moon by 2030. This detailed glimpse into the space station offers rare insight into China’s ambitious and often secretive space endeavors.
