Shocking: AQI in Delhi Drops to 226 While Toxic Foam Plagues Yamuna River in Kalindi Kunj!
In New Delhi, the air quality deteriorated significantly, leading to a smoggy atmosphere as the Air Quality Index (AQI) hit 226, classified as ‘Poor.’ The worst-affected areas, like Akshardham and Anand Vihar, recorded ‘Very Poor’ AQIs of 334. Residents reported health issues such as throat irritation and breathing difficulties. Ashish Kumar Meena urged governmental action against polluters and advocated for fines on individuals burning substances. Another resident suggested increased use of public transport and carpooling to mitigate pollution.
Political tensions escalated, with BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party for failing to curb pollution despite previous promises and significant investments like the ₹23 crore smog tower. Poonawalla accused the party of turning Delhi into a ‘gas chamber’ while toxic foam was spotted in the Yamuna River, highlighting environmental concerns.
Environment Minister Gopal Rai pinpointed local pollution sources as the primary issue, especially as winter approaches. He emphasized that 13 hotspots, including Wazirpur, Mundka, and Rohini, have AQIs exceeding 300. The minister announced that authorities are investigating these local pollution sources to implement targeted measures.
