Breaking Barriers: Arunachal CM Passionately Urges Union Ministry for Enhanced Flight Connectivity at Donyi Polo Airport
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has urged the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to improve flight connectivity at Donyi Polo Airport in Itanagar. In a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Khandu highlighted that the existing flights to Kolkata and New Delhi are often fully booked, resulting in high travel costs and ticket shortages.
Khandu emphasized the challenges faced by passengers due to limited flights from Kolkata and New Delhi to other major cities, leading to extended layovers. He also expressed concern over the suspension of flight services between Itanagar and Guwahati since November 2023.
The Chief Minister appealed for increased daily flights from Itanagar to New Delhi and Kolkata, direct flights to other key metropolitan areas, improved connectivity options from New Delhi and Kolkata, and the reinstatement of the Itanagar-Guwahati route under the UDAN scheme.
In a separate communication to IndiGo’s Rahul Bhatia, Khandu requested additional flights to Delhi and direct services to other major metros. He conveyed his appreciation for IndiGo’s current services and assured full support from the State’s Department of Civil Aviation to enhance flight operations.
In a positive development, IndiGo announced the launch of daily flights between Itanagar and Kolkata, commencing on July 31.
