On July 15, 2024, during a routine check on the Chaparmukh to Guwahati Express (Train No. 01666 DN Ex-CPK-GHY), RPF personnel discovered 14 suspected packets of cannabis hidden in the lavatory of the rear General Sleeper (GS) coach. The cannabis, weighing 25.7 kg and valued at approximately Rs 2,57,000, was concealed in the wall covered by sun mica and remained unclaimed. Upon arrival at Guwahati, the packets were seized with appropriate documentation, including videography and photography, and subsequently handed over to the GRPS/GHY. A case has been registered under case no. 156/2024 U/S 20(b)II(C) NDPS Act.

In a related incident on June 12, Gossaigaon police conducted a raid on National Highway 31 at Shri Rampur, seizing 313 kg of cannabis. The operation, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Hiren Kumar Deka, resulted in the arrest of truck driver Ganesh Musahari. The truck, bearing the number PB06A37707 and travelling from Guwahati to Bihar, was found to have a secret chamber containing the cannabis.

These incidents highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb drug trafficking in the region.
