Arunachal Police’s Heroic Bust: Unmasking a Fake Currency Racket, Seizing Rs 3 Lakh in Counterfeit Notes!
In a significant law enforcement success, Papum Pare Police dismantled a counterfeit currency ring on July 16, arresting two men and seizing fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 3,00,000.
The operation followed a complaint lodged by Sima Taba, a resident of Police Colony Doimukh, on July 14, 2024. Taba reported receiving persistent calls urging her to exchange money for three times the provided amount. Responding swiftly, SP Taru Gusar organized a dedicated police team under the supervision of SDPO Doimukh.
A sting operation was meticulously planned, requiring Taba to arrange a meeting with the suspects at the railway overbridge near Harmuti on July 15 at 5:00 AM. The police, along with the complainant, reached the designated spot. As two men on a motorcycle approached, police intervention led the suspects to flee. The suspects, identified as Mofijul Ali, 25, and Esmile Ali, 26, residents of Lakhimpur District, Assam, were apprehended.
Interrogation of the suspects revealed the hiding place of the counterfeit currency. The police recovered the fake notes, packed in a blue polythene bag, totaling Rs 3,00,000 in Rs 500 denominations. The seizure was witnessed by an independent entity and thoroughly documented on video, adhering to Section 105 BNSS.
Both suspects were formally arrested and subjected to four days of police remand for further questioning. Authorities anticipate uncovering more individuals involved in the counterfeit currency racket during this period.
This operation marks a vital blow against illegal currency circulation, reflecting the prompt and effective response of Papum Pare Police. The seizure not only highlights the diligence of local law enforcement but also underscores the importance of public cooperation in tackling criminal activities. Further developments are expected as the investigation proceeds.
