Meghalaya Tops Group A, Advances to NECDC Senior Women’s T20 Semifinals

In a thrilling display at the North East Cricket Development Council’s 1st Senior Women’s Interstate Friendship T20 Tournament 2024, Meghalaya secured a 17-run victory over Manipur, topping Group A and qualifying for the semifinals. The match was held at Pahamsning Cricket Ground in Ri-Bhoi.
Meghalaya won the toss and chose to bat, managing to post a total of 97/5 in 20 overs. Despite losing three early wickets for just 13 runs, Neha Hajong (18) and Luiza Tamang (32 not out) stabilized the innings with a 45-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Daiaka Warjri added a crucial 14 runs to push the team close to the 100-run mark. Manipur’s bowlers shared equal spoils with RK Linthoingambi Devi, Chingkheileima Chanu Mangsatabam, and Monica Devi Ningthoujam each taking 1/13.
Manipur’s batting struggled to form substantial partnerships. Only Monica Devi (24) and Kalpana Devi Keisham (17 not out) managed double figures, and the team was bowled out for 80 in 18.4 overs. Meghalaya’s Daiaka Warjri shone with 2/26, while Ruby Chettri, Debasmita Dutta, and Ajima Sangma each claimed one wicket.
In Group B, Sikkim narrowly defeated Mizoram by 9 runs to ensure their place at the top, following a victory against Nagaland the previous day. Sikkim posted a humble 72/7 in 20 overs, led by Tshering Ongmu Lepcha (20) and Anjeel Lepcha (18 not out). Mizoram’s Mamta Rai took 3/11. Despite a promising start with Felfeli Pautu (14) and No. 3 P Vansangzuali (22), Mizoram ended their chase at 63/8 in 20 overs, thwarted by Purni Maya Gurung’s impressive 3/8.
The semifinals slated for Thursday will see Meghalaya facing Nagaland at 9 am, followed by a clash between Sikkim and Manipur at 12:30 pm. The tournament has so far delivered compelling cricket and highlighted emerging talents, promising an exciting conclusion.
