Heartfelt Tributes: President Murmu and PM Modi Honor Mahatma Gandhi on His 155th Birth Anniversary
President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi on Wednesday, marking his 155th birth anniversary. Their visit underscored the nation’s collective reverence for Gandhi’s pivotal role in shaping India’s history.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Manohar Lal, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also honored Gandhi at the iconic memorial. Prime Minister Modi, on social media platform X, expressed profound respect for Gandhi’s enduring ideals of truth, harmony, and equality. “On behalf of all countrymen, salutations to Pujya Bapu on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals will always remain an inspiration,” he wrote.
Modi also commemorated former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who shares the same birth anniversary. He praised Shastri’s dedication to soldiers, farmers, and the nation’s dignity. “Respectful tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, who dedicated his life for the ‘jawan’, ‘kisan’, and ‘swabhiman’ of the country,” Modi noted.
Gandhi Jayanti, celebrated annually on October 2, honors Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, who led India’s non-violent independence movement, culminating in the country’s freedom from British rule in 1947.
