Chief Minister Highlights Commitment to Consumer Rights at State-Level Seminar
Agartala, 30th September 2024: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha underscored the state government’s commitment to transparency and service provision during a state-level seminar on consumer rights. The event, organized by the Food and Civil Supplies Department, saw the inauguration of consumer clubs in 100 schools and 18 colleges and universities at Rabindra Satabarsiki Bhavan.
Addressing the seminar, Dr. Saha stressed the importance of consumer awareness regarding protection laws. "Consumers need proper knowledge about consumer protection laws; hence, the Food Department should conduct more awareness programs," he stated. He also urged consumers to collect correct cash memos to facilitate access to legal services and avoid scams in areas like real estate and online shopping.
Notable initiatives include the establishment of consumer clubs at various educational institutions and the implementation of the E-PDS system to enhance transparency in public distribution. Old ration cards are being upgraded to durable PVC cards.
During the function, Dr. Saha unveiled the first edition of the Food Department’s quarterly magazine, ‘Bhokta Sangbad.’ Significant attendees included Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Justice Arindam Lodh, and Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder.
This seminar and the subsequent initiatives embody the state government’s dedication to fostering an informed and vigilant consumer base.
