By TC News Desk
Agartala, 15th July 2024: A groundbreaking study has identified Cape Town, the capital city of South Africa, as the world’s first waterless city, underscoring the escalating global crisis of water scarcity. Despite Earth’s vast water coverage, only a minuscule proportion is potable fresh water, vital for all living beings.
In a proactive response to this global emergency, the Tripura State Pollution Control Board, in collaboration with the NSS unit of Women’s College, initiated a public awareness campaign to emphasize the prudent use of drinking water. On Monday, NSS students distributed informative leaflets to capital city residents, stressing the significance of conserving this essential resource.
A representative from the NSS unit spoke to the media, highlighting the grave situation of the global freshwater supply. She underscored the crucial need to avoid water wastage, stating, “Everyone needs drinking water to survive, and our aim is to make people aware of the critical need to stop wasting this precious resource.”
This initiative represents a vital step in raising awareness about water conservation, urging the community to take actionable measures to safeguard the dwindling freshwater reserves.
