Tripura Government Undertakes Major Tourism Development Initiatives

Agartala, 27th September 2024: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced significant plans for the development of tourism in Tripura during the World Tourism Day program held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan. Highlighting a multi-pronged approach, Dr. Saha revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 692 crore has been signed between the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited and National Highways Logistics Management Limited. This MoU aims to construct ropeways connecting key tourist spots such as Udaipur Railway Station to Matabari, Maharani to Chabimura, Surmachara, and Jampui Hills.
Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of the tourism industry in driving economic growth and employment within the state. He noted that Tripura’s natural environment, along with its religious sites such as Tripura Sundari Temple, Kasba Kalibari, Fourteenth Goddess Temple, and Mahamuni Pagoda, are major tourism assets. Efforts are being made to beautify these and other locations like Matabari in Udaipur, Narkelkunja, and Dumbur.
The state government is leveraging various central schemes to bolster tourism infrastructure. Under the Swadesh Darshan 1.0 project, significant developments have been made in tourist centers like Agartala, Sepahijala, Melaghar, and more. Additionally, the construction of 41 modern log huts at various tourist sites has been completed.
Further development projects are underway, funded by the Asian Development Bank. These projects include work in Chabimura, Sonamukhi area of Kailashahar, Chaturdash Devata Temple, and Kasba Kali Temple area, with an estimated Rs 180 crore being invested.
The World Tourism Day event, which also recognized the unsung heroes of the recent floods in Tripura, saw the presence of notable dignitaries including Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Mayor Dipak Majumder, Secretary of the Tourism Department Dr. TK Debnath, and TTDC Managing Director Prashant Badal Negi.
