RRU Director Urges Pasighat Students to Balance Sports and Academics
Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) Pasighat Director Dr Sanjeev Singh Moirangmayum urged students to take part in sports alongside their studies, saying athletic activities support physical and mental development and can open pathways to professional careers. He made the remarks on Wednesday, November 4, at the annual sports meet of Donyi Polo Vidya Niketan (DPVN) in Talom Rukbo Nagar, Pasighat.
Moirangmayum said sport can help students develop discipline, leadership and resilience. He pointed to judoka Naorem Roshibina, who has won medals at three Asian Games and later became a Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Manipur Police Department.
He also cited mountaineer Kabak Yano, from Arunachal Pradesh, who became the first woman from the Nyishi community and the fifth woman from the state to summit Mount Everest. Taekwondo athlete Rupa Bayor, who has reached the top five in global rankings and is ranked No. 1 in Asia, was another example he gave of sporting achievement creating opportunities beyond conventional academic careers.
Moirangmayum praised DPVN for holding the meet and said its campus at 3 Mile, Pasighat, had playground facilities and space for students to try different sports. He invited students to visit the RRU Pasighat campus and use its sports science laboratory to assess their fitness and muscular development. He said the assessments could help those considering a career in sport understand their physical requirements and identify areas to improve.
RSS Siang Vibhag Pracharak Bisheshwar Singh Laishram also urged students to practise discipline and sportsmanship. He said sport was an integral part of education, supporting physical and mental development as well as academic performance.
DPVN Principal Vidya Kant Jha, School Management Committee President Dr Kaling Dai and Secretary Er Oder Gao welcomed guests and outlined the programme. The four-day meet, running from November 4 to 7, includes track and field events, kho-kho, football penalty shootouts, arm wrestling, archery, tug of war, volleyball, marathon, table tennis, chess and yoga.
