Nepathya’s Gangtok Show: A Milestone for Sikkim’s Concert Economy
Nepathya’s Gangtok concert has marked a milestone for Sikkim’s emerging Concert Economy and Creative Economy, with more than 15,000 people filling Paljor Stadium for “Nepathya Live in Sikkim – Let’s Get Loud: Celebrate Sikkim” on November 1. The event was originally scheduled for October 31 but was postponed by a day because of adverse weather. Organisers said about 4,652 attendees travelled from outside Sikkim, while more than 10,348 were from within the State. The audience represented 19 Indian States, two Union Territories and six countries, underscoring the concert’s pull as a large-scale cultural and musical experience.
According to PVE Network, which reviewed available historical records, the Paljor Stadium show was the first full-house open-air stadium performance by a Nepali band outside Nepal. Nepathya, led by frontman Amrit Gurung, blended Nepali folk traditions with rock music and performed widely loved songs, including “Resham,” “Jomsomai Bazaarma,” “Bhedako Oon Jasto,” “Chhekyo Chhekyo” and “Taal Ko Pani.” Organisers said the sight and sound of thousands celebrating Nepali music inside an open-air stadium in India became a defining image of the evening and demonstrated the reach of Nepali-language music and Himalayan culture.
The concert also gave visible shape to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang’s public emphasis on the Concert Economy and Creative Economy. Visitors travelled to Gangtok, stayed in hotels and homestays, used taxis and local transport, visited restaurants and cafés, and shopped in local markets. The one-day postponement led many travelling audience members to extend or rearrange their stays, adding activity across the hospitality, transport and food sectors. PVE Network said the Chief Minister’s statements on culture, tourism, creativity and youth-led opportunities were an important inspiration for the initiative.
Bikesh Kayastha, Founding Director of PVE Network and Head of Event, said the Chief Minister’s speeches on the Concert Economy and Creative Economy inspired the organisers to pursue the event. “We wanted to demonstrate Sikkim’s potential as a cultural and emerging musical tourism destination, and what happened at Paljor Stadium has shown that the opportunity is real,” he said. He added that a full stadium and 4,652 visitors from outside Sikkim send a strong message to organisers across India and abroad that Sikkim is ready for major live experiences.
The event was held under Chief Patron Sanjeet Kharel, with Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia as Chief Coordinator. Organisers worked with the administration, police, government departments, venue authorities, production teams, partners and local stakeholders on crowd movement, traffic, security, venue operations and public convenience, especially after the weather-related postponement. PVE Network thanked the Government of Sikkim, authorities, Sikkim Police, partners, local stakeholders, production teams, volunteers and the people of Sikkim, with special acknowledgement for outside visitors who remained patient and cooperative after the event was moved from October 31 to November 1. The organisers said the concert can serve as an example for future promoters considering Sikkim as a destination for major music, cultural and creative experiences.
