Barpeta Sangeet Samaroh 2027 Unveiled: Academy of Khol Badya’s Third Annual Music Festival Set to Buzz Assam!
Barpeta Is About to Make Some Noise: The Third Annual Barpeta Sangeet Samaroh 2027 Is Here
By Rupaliparda
The whisper network in Barpeta’s cultural circles has been working overtime, and for once the chatter is absolutely worth it. The Academy of Khol Badya, Barpeta, is preparing to roll out the third annual Barpeta Sangeet Samaroh 2027-a two-day musical feast set for January 30 and 31-and the line-up is the kind that makes other festival organisers quietly reach for their planners.
This is not a modest little local gathering. The organising committee has confirmed several distinguished artistes, and the roster reads like a carefully curated invitation to the best of classical and folk traditions. Internationally renowned tabla star Anindo Chatterjee and his disciple Anubrata Chatterjee will be in attendance-yes, the tabla conversation alone should be worth the trip. Add to that Vinay Desai, a distinguished artiste and disciple of santoor legend Shiv Kumar Sharma, and the classical music quotient is already shimmering.
But the two-day event is not content with one mood. It promises a rich confluence of classical and folk music and dance, which is exactly where Barpeta’s cultural DNA comes into full view. Kathak exponent Ruparani Das Bora will bring her grace to the stage, while Sattriya artiste Anita Sharma will present the form’s distinctive rhythm and devotion. Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Gunin Oja will offer a colourful presentation that should be anything but ordinary.
The festival’s cultural canvas widens further with Bhudev Das’s Sattriya, Holi songs led by Kabin Das, and folk songs by Hemen Das and Geetanjali Gayen. Rajib Lochan Sarma’s thiyanam and Achyut Ojha’s ghosa-kirtan will add their own devotional texture, while Manoj Kumar Das-recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Bismillah award-will present a khol recital. For those who know the khol’s thunder and subtlety, that is a headline attraction in itself.
The Academy of Khol Badya’s initiative is not just a festival; it is a statement. By bringing these artistes together, the organisers are attempting to place Barpeta’s musical and cultural traditions on a much larger stage-and frankly, it is about time. Barpeta has long been a keeper of traditions that deserve national, even international, attention. This festival gives those traditions a microphone, a spotlight, and a serious platform.
So mark your calendars for January 30 and 31. The third annual Barpeta Sangeet Samaroh 2027 is shaping up to be a meeting of maestros, a celebration of heritage, and a reminder that Assam’s cultural calendar is not to be taken lightly. If the whispers are to be believed-and this time they are-Barpeta is about to make some very beautiful noise.
