Pride of Shillong: Cosplayer Zacky D to Represent India in Singapore
A cosplayer from Shillong is set to represent India at a major international competition in Singapore this December, further cementing the growing presence of artists from the Northeast in the global cosplay community. Donald Khumlo, known professionally as Zacky D, will compete at the Cosplay Fight Club: All-Star Team Battle, scheduled to take place from December 11 to 13, 2026.
Khumlo has spent nearly a decade refining his skills in costume-making, character portrayal, and performance. His upcoming appearance in Singapore adds to an already impressive international track record that includes representing India at the World Cosplay Summit 2023 in Japan, the Gamers8 Cosplay Cup 2023 in Saudi Arabia, and Pop Culture Hiroshima in Japan in 2020 and 2022.
Cosplay, the art of recreating fictional characters through costumes, makeup, props, and performance, demands both technical precision and creative expression. At competitive events, participants are typically judged not only on the accuracy and craftsmanship of their costumes but also on how effectively they interpret and bring their chosen characters to life on stage.
The Singapore competition will feature multiple rounds, including a Spotlight Performance, a Character Challenge, and an intense five-member-versus-five-member team battle. Contestants will be evaluated on a range of criteria, including costume craftsmanship, storytelling, choreography, and stage presence.
The event’s confirmed judging panel brings considerable star power and industry credibility. Richard Cetrone, a Hollywood actor and stunt performer whose credits include Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Captain America: Civil War, will serve as a judge. He will be joined by Japanese writer Nobuyuki Takahashi, who is widely credited with coining the term “cosplay” in the 1980s.
Khumlo’s participation continues his streak of high-profile international appearances, bringing an artist from Meghalaya into a competitive space that sits at the intersection of costume design, performance, and popular culture. His presence in Singapore will also draw attention to the vibrant and evolving cosplay scene in Northeast India, where a growing number of artists are carving out creative careers linked to global entertainment and fan culture.
